TL;DR

  • Mexican citizens enter Cambodia with a 30 USD tourist e-Visa or a visa on arrival (VOA), no prior consular procedure.
  • No bilateral visa exemption between Mexico and Cambodia — Mexico’s SRE Guía del Viajero confirms Mexican nationals “SÍ requieren visa” (do need a visa) for any stay, even short ones.
  • No Mexico-Cambodia tax treaty: Mexico has signed no double-taxation agreement with Cambodia — a key point for long-term residents.

Conditions

Standard Cambodian e-Visa conditions, per Mexico’s SRE:

  • Mexican passport valid ≥ 6 months beyond the end of travel.
  • More than two blank pages for visa stamps.
  • e-Visa printout (PDF) or VOA at airports (Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Sihanoukville) and main land crossings.

Procedures from Mexico

At evisa.gov.kh — 30 USD by card, PDF within 3 business days. The SRE Guía del Viajero points to this portal as the official channel. From Mexico it is by far the simplest route: Cambodia has no resident embassy in Mexico (see below). MXN payment is converted to USD at the daily rate.

Visa on arrival (VOA)

At international airports and main land border crossings. Have 30 USD cash ready (payment is in US dollars) plus a passport photo — cards are not always accepted.

No Cambodian embassy in Mexico

Cambodia has no resident embassy in Mexico. For tourism this is irrelevant — the online e-Visa covers the need. On the Mexican side, the Embassy of Mexico in Bangkok (Thailand) is accredited to Cambodia (“Concurrencias: Reino de Camboya”) and provides consular protection to Mexicans on the ground — see Tax and FAQ below.

Long-stay visa: EB or ER

For stays > 60 consecutive days, switch to:

  • EB (Ordinary Business) for working/founding a company; renewed yearly with an MLVT work permit. See EB visa guide.
  • ER (Ordinary Retired) for retirees > 55 with pension proof; renewable indefinitely. See ER visa guide.

Tax: no Mexico-Cambodia treaty

Unlike France, Mexico has no double-taxation agreement with Cambodia. Cambodia’s treaty partners are around a dozen countries (Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, China, South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei…) — Mexico is not among them.

For a Mexican resident in Cambodia:

  • No treaty relief — you manage your cross-border tax exposure yourself, with no treaty-based tax-credit mechanism.
  • Your Mexican tax residency follows SAT criteria (home, centre of vital interests), regardless of time in Cambodia.
  • Cambodia taxes residency beyond 183 days of presence — see the tax residence guide.

FAQ

Do Mexican citizens need a visa for Cambodia?

Yes. Mexico’s SRE Guía del Viajero states plainly: “Las personas mexicanas SÍ requieren visa.” A tourist e-Visa (30 USD, 30 days) or VOA suits a short stay.

Must the Mexican passport be valid for 6 months?

Yes — at least 6 months beyond the end of travel, with more than two blank pages for visa stamps, per the SRE.

Is there a Mexico-Cambodia tax treaty?

No. No double-taxation agreement is in force. Mexican residency stays governed by SAT criteria; Cambodian residency applies beyond 183 days of presence.

Is there a Cambodian embassy in Mexico?

No — Cambodia has no resident embassy in Mexico, which is irrelevant for tourism since the e-Visa is fully online. On the Mexican side, the Embassy of Mexico in Bangkok is accredited to Cambodia and provides consular protection.

Is the Mexican driving licence valid in Cambodia?

The Mexican licence alone is not recognised. Get an international driving permit (IDP) in Mexico before departure, or convert to a Cambodian licence on arrival.
