Genki is a fully digital international health insurer launched in 2022, distributed by DR-WALTER GmbH (a German international health insurance specialist active since 1965, based in Bonn) and operated as a standalone brand targeting digital nomads, long-stay expats and international residents. Genki's promise comes down to three things: (1) online subscription in a few minutes with no full medical questionnaire for those under 65, (2) very competitive rates vs. traditional players (from around EUR 70/month for the basic plan at age 30), (3) worldwide cover excluding USA / Canada by default, with these two countries available as an option. In Cambodia, Genki has become popular among digital nomads and expat freelancers thanks to an English-language sign-up experience and monthly billing with no annual commitment for the "Genki Native" (resident) plan — something few traditional insurers accept. Reimbursements are processed against invoices (no direct cashless billing by default, but the app lets you send invoices in a few clicks with reimbursement in 5–14 days according to DR-WALTER). For major care, Genki relies on the DR-WALTER network (worldwide) and arranges direct billing with partner international hospitals on request. Important: Genki is designed for routine care and hospitalisation, not for the "life insurance + retirement" needs of a settled family — for that, the traditional players are the way to go (April, Allianz Care, Cigna). For nomads / freelancers in the early or mid stages of their career in Cambodia, Genki is the go-to modern / low-cost option.
